Meet Allie

Hello! I’m Allie, a Marriage and Family Therapist based in the Philadelphia region. I currently practice out of the Philadelphia Institute of Individual, Relational, and Sex Therapy. You can check out more about PhIIRST here!

I’m passionate about helping individuals and couples find clarity, tap into vulnerability, and increase authenticity in their many relationships. The most important aspect of therapy is the ability to trust your therapist, which is why I strive to create a non-judgemental and collaborative environment. My flexible approach to therapy balances the exploration of emotional discomfort with humor, joy, and pleasure!

I first became passionate about mental health in high school and knew I wanted to make therapy my career. I received my B.S. in Psychology from Penn State University where I began my counseling career at a crisis hotline center in town. While every call was unique, each person in crisis shared something with one another - their family, friends, or spouses either fueled or quelled their distress. I felt drawn to understand relationships and the power they hold. From there, I decided to pursue my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University, where their specialty track in Sex Therapy became a central interest. I consider myself to be a life-long learner and continue to read, research, and participate in trainings relevant to my core specialties!

Treatment Modalities & Training

My core therapeutic training is in Systems Theory, which means that I see each client I treat as a part of a larger system. I don’t just consider each individual, I consider their systems as a whole - their families, peer groups, workplace community, or their partnership/marriage - and the interconnectedness that informs behaviors and dynamics.

Some other treatment modalities that inform my work include:

  • Emotion-Focused Therapy

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Internal Family Systems

    • Inner Child Work/Reparenting

  • Mindfulness Practice

  • Polyvagal Theory

  • Attachment Theory

FAQs

  • My practice is hybrid and flexible! I offer in-person availability on Tuesdays in our Center City office and on Thursday in our Media office. I see clients virtually throughout the week.

  • I don’t accept insurance at this time, however I can offer a superbill to submit to your insurance provider for potential reimbursement.

  • My intake process typically spans 3-4 sessions. I like to spend our first session going over paperwork/policies, gauging your experience in therapy, and getting to know what’s most important to you. The next few sessions involve goal-setting and taking a family/relationship/sexual education history to understand how past experiences inform our present belief systems about relationships and sex. Once these initial assessment sessions are completed, we can start applying the past to the present and working towards our goals!

  • I typically run a 50-60 minute session; around that 50 minute mark is where we start wrapping up, summarizing session, and making plans for where to pick up next time. I can offer 90 minute sessions for clients looking for more time to process.

Session frequency is up to you! I typically recommend that the first four sessions are weekly so that we can get into a comfortable rhythm and get to know each other. However, I’m always happy to work with your availability and budget when it comes to scheduling.
